Ingrid James John Reeves Andrew Shaw @ Tallai Country Golf Club, Worongary Road Tallai, Gold Coast 3pm to 6pm CD LAUNCH
But in January Ingrid braved the cold weather of the USA to do some gigs, here is a review from Cathy Segal-Garcia about her performance.
PERFORMANCE REVIEW @ THE JAZZ BAKERY, LOS ANGELES - 18TH JANUARY 2009 (Cathy Segal-Garcia)
On January 18th, 2009...I started the first in a new series called "The Singers' Roundtable" It featured myself as the Interviewer, interviewing Australian vocalist Ingrid James (Ingrid was, as always, visually & performance wise - brilliant. Her expression, clarity & vocal control thrilled the audience...) and vocalist Tierney Sutton (Tierney is among the most subtle and nuanced of jazz singers; for her, detail and considered interpretation are inextricably linked with expressiveness) On hand was pianist Karen Hammack (Perfect sense of swing, totally sensitive, outstanding player in all styles..)to play for impromptu spontaneous musical outbursts!
Tune into ABC Brisbane 612 for Richard Fidler's show on May 1st as Ingrid will be on the airwaves chatting about and playing tracks that influenced 'Circumflex' http://www.abc.net.au/profiles/content/s1869500.htm?site=brisbane
Ingrid was planning to appear at the Cap Jazz Festival in France for August but it may happen in 2010, but she will be in France from the 3rd July 09 for some shows (we will keep you updated!) and may possibly be teaching at Guildhall in London with a possible gig too!
So if you haven't yet purchased Circumflex head to Itunes http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?id=300637899&s=143460, purchase on our site or order it through your favourite retailer!
25/03/2009 Fernandez & Wright CD Launch Review
Hello jazz fans!
It's taken us hump day to report back on the brilliance that was the Fernandez & Wright CD launch. Sunday night was THE night we had pencilled in for some time!
Knowing the night had sold out several weeks before show time, there were high expectations for the duo to create something special...that they did.
Highlighting the full album, the duo were backed by the amazing Sam Keevers on keys, Ben Robertson on double bass and Gerry Pantazis on drums. As the band had a break, Vanessa & Steve performed the track that started their musical partnership by Angie Stone 'Wish I Didn't Miss You' which really had everyone cheering after it. The energy and vibe that night was enough to show that Fernandez & Wright have arrived to an eager audience. Here's to the next show and taking it around Australia in the near future!

Stella Skinner Quartet received a glowing review in last weeks Sydney Morning Herald via John Shand:
PAPER PLANES (Newmarket) - three-and-a-half stars
'Melbourne pianist Sam Keevers has seldom struck such a glistening seam of lyricism as he does on this album led by guitarist Stella Skinner, herself a fine improviser with a distinctive candel-lit take on the classic jazz guitar sound. It is pretty, pastel-hued jazz, close to the house style of the ECM label in the 1970s, played well enough to still enchant, even if this particular row has been thoroughly hoed. The quartet is ably completed by bassist Alex Yeap and drummer Tony Floyd'.
Stella's album is available through our online store or ask for it at your favourite music store!
Have great weekends everyone and thanks again for supporting Australian Music and Newmarket!
